Authority & Date Side
A large cherry blossom surrounds the central hole, flanked by paulownia emblems, with the national authority above and the Shōwa date below against concentric-line ornament.
Value Side
The chrysanthemum appears above, the 10 Sen denomination is divided by the central hole, and stylized wave-and-ray ornament fills the lower field.
Temporary Currency Act Context
Japan Mint explains that the Temporary Currency Act was enacted in 1938 as demand for subsidiary coinage increased and military requirements changed the supply of coinage metals. The 10 Sen aluminum-bronze issue is listed among the wartime coins introduced under that framework.
1940 Type Boundary
Japan also issued a distinct non-holed aluminum 10 Sen type dated 1940. This page documents only the holed aluminum-bronze type (Numista N#14006), keeping it separate from the existing 1940–1943 aluminum archive.
