02 · DESIGN & ISSUE NOTES
The 1942–1945 wartime alloy contains 35% silver, 56% copper and 9% manganese. A large mint mark is placed over Monticello’s dome.
Design continuity: the original Jefferson obverse remained in use through 2004. The usual Monticello reverse was replaced by the 2004 Westward Journey designs for that year.
Historical mintage note: 37,158,000 is the figure in the linked Jefferson Nickel Mintage compilation. Different catalogues can include Proofs or other variants differently; this page does not present a market valuation.
