United States Mint · 1999 Proof Set Launch
Contemporary 1999 notice identifying the nine-coin clad set, the S mintmark, two cases, $19.95 original issue price.
Open reference ↗The 1999 United States Mint regular proof set changed the traditional annual format. Four familiar denominations — Kennedy half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln Memorial cent — came in one holder. Five new Washington State Quarters, honoring Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut, came in a second holder. All are San Francisco S proofs. For consistent archive navigation, these nine actual coins are documented across five denomination pages, with all five quarters together. This is the regular clad set, not the separately sold silver set.
The U.S. Mint initially estimated production near 2 million (1999 launch), revised expectations in 2000, and separately reported 2,379,870 sales as of March 3, 2000. The later 2,543,401 figure is a secondary catalogue total for the standard set; it is not interchangeable with those contemporary estimates. Do not confuse this nine-coin set with the separately sold five-quarter Proof Set or the silver set.
