Wartime Holed Tin 10 Sen
Japan Mint records identify the 1944 10 Sen as a holed tin coin composed of approximately 93% tin and 7% zinc, with a nominal standard of 19 mm and 2.4 g. Japan Mint historical material explains that aluminum coinage was abandoned late in the war and tin-based 10 Sen and 5 Sen coins were introduced in 1944. Production was short-lived because tin procurement soon became difficult.
