Wartime Material Transition
Japan Mint explains that, as wartime material conditions worsened, aluminum coinage was abandoned and 10 Sen and 5 Sen tin coins were produced in 1944. The return to a holed format reduced metal use. Tin procurement soon became difficult, and Japan Mint states that production of the tin 10 Sen and 5 Sen coins was discontinued in August 1944.
Reported Edge Variant
Numista notes reported reeded examples and describes them as possible errors or trial strikes. The archive does not treat that report as a standard circulation specification; the standard edge remains recorded as plain unless stronger primary evidence is established.
Archive Note
No third-party coin image is reproduced on this page. Japan Mint material is used as the primary source for type identity, alloy, production period and historical context. Numista data are identified separately as secondary catalogue information.
