United States Mint · 1998 Five-Coin Proof Set
Contemporary July 1998 notice about the five-coin proof program and its 2.1-million sales cap (not a final production figure).
Open reference ↗The 1998-S standard proof collection contains five San Francisco issues: Kennedy half dollar, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln Memorial cent. Its Washington quarter retains the familiar eagle reverse for the last annual set before the 1999 State Quarters series. This is the regular clad edition, distinct from the separately marketed 1998 silver proof collection. Independent collector archive; not a U.S. Mint product.
The U.S. Mint announced a sales CAP of 2,100,000 five-coin sets on July 31, 1998; this is not the same as the later reported 2,086,507 sets in collector catalogues. The Mint announced the 1998 sets were no longer available in December 1998. Half dollar, quarter and dime in this standard set are clad, not silver. No third-party photographs or price tables are reproduced.
